Inspired by 21st Amendment Brewery's Hell or High Watermelon, Catfish Brewing Company wanted to put our own spin on a watermelon wheat. Brewed with 12 pounds of fresh watermelon, Hefemelon had more than 2X the amount of watermelon than a traditional watermelon wheat.
Catfish Brewing Company learned a few things from this brew. It turned into more of a sour with little to no head. All of the sugar from the watermelon ate the carbonation. Next time we brew something with this much sugar, we'd add more yeast to keep. However, despite the intentions of a Watermelon Wheat, a fairly tasty stone fruit ale developed. Catfish will try another run at a new and improved Hefemelon next summer, but next up will be a traditional stone fruit!
